Overview And Experience

Dr. John James Okiror (PhD) holds a PhD in Agricultural Extension Education from Makerere University and completed Postdoc studies at University of Cambridge, UK. His work experience includes: visiting senior lecturer at Faculty of Science and Education in Busitema University; Senior Lecturer at Department of Extension and Innovation Studies in the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Makerere University (2001 – 2021); Part time lecturer at the Department of Agriculture in Kyambogo Univeristy; as Director of Quality Assurance at Kumi University to date

He has previously worked as teacher educator for Agriculture at the National Teachers Colleges of Nagongera (1993 – 2000) and Kaliro (2000). He was Head teacher of Rainer High School in Tororo and Deputy Head teacher at Iki-Iki S.S.S, Budaka District. He is a member of the Board of Governors for St. Henry Girls S.S.S Buyege which is under the Bannabikira Sisters of Mary, Bwanda, Masaka.

He has been external examiner for Bukalasa Agricultural College, Kyambogo University, Islamic University in Uganda; and Egerton University at Njoro, Kenya. His experience also includes work as a Master Trainer for Farmer Field Schools; Capacity Building for District Local Government Extension Officers in Farmer Field Methodology; CUNDP/MAAIF Participatory Curriculum Development for Land Use Management and Climate Change Adaptation in Mbale, Manafwa and Bulambuli Districts; Development of Training Manuals for various actors in Agriculture sector as well as Occupational Standards for Agriculture Skills Council; UNESCO l MOES guidelines for Gender Responsive Pedagogy; Peace Education in Higher Education Institutions; and, Quality Assurance for Teacher Education Institutions. He has published several articles in refereed journals; book chapters and books.
