The Founders

KAPATU was founded thanks to the joint effort of the The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kotido in Uganda, The Catholic Lawyers Society International, and The Government of the Republic of Uganda.

1 – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kotido in Uganda

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kotido has availed more than 76 Acres of Land at Christ the King Parish Losilang and at Kanawat Health Centre III which will accommodate the main university campus.

This area shall house the University Main Building, the Senate Building, the Library Building, the Information Communication Technology Building, Students Center Building, and Students Hostels plus the Four Faculty Buildings and more spaces for demonstration projects and cocurricular activities.

More than two thousand acres of Land and infrastructure have also been availed at the various (13) thirteen Catholic Parishes that constitute Kotido Catholic Diocese. These Catholic Parishes are spread across the four Districts of Kotido, Abim, Kaabong and Karenga that fall under the territorial jurisdiction of Kotido Catholic Diocese.

These thirteen Catholic Parishes will accommodate the off-campus and distance learning programs, that will be extended to the grass root catchment areas of the University. This is intended to take services closer to the people.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kotido has also provided the existing infrastructure at Christ the King Parish at Losilang and at Kanawat Health Centre III, which include (6) six Classrooms, (2) two Halls of Residence, Staff Accommodation, and the main Administration Office Block.

These facilities have been validated as adequate and fit for the purpose of hosting the initial University Programs that include the Faculty of Education and Peace Studies, the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, the Faculty of Health Sciences, and the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.

The diocese has also provided funding towards the technical teams to ensure that the success of the university project.

2 – The Catholic Lawyers Society International 

The Catholic Lawyers Society International conceived Karamoja Peace and Technology University in 2014. Since the University’s conception, it has continued to provide funding for specialized technical studies, research, provided legal consultancy services and incorporated the University as a legal entity, ensured legal compliance with the law, funded on-spot field visits and assessments by the technical teams to conduct mapping, surveys of land, geo – tech studies and has also engaged architects and engineers to provide architectural consultancy services etc.

It has further continued to pay the requisite statutory fees to National Council for Higher Education and other National Statutory bodies; further provided funds for the technical teams as well as the fact-finding visits to the university by National Council for Higher Education. It continues to play a leading role in ensuring legal compliance and to provide all the technical guidance and support for the institution.

3 – The Government of The Republic of Uganda

The Strategic leadership of the University is headed by H.E. Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda. He is the founding Chancellor and Visitor of the University.

H.E. Maj. Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, Woman Member of Parliament for Katakwi District and the Vice President of the Republic of Uganda is the founding Deputy Chancellor and Chief University Promoter.

Both His Excellency Gen.Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Her Excellency Maj. Jessica Rose Epel Alupo provided funds to support the Catholic Lawyers Society International start the University and to conduct the initial stakeholder engagements in Kampala and Karamoja. They have further consistently continued to provide institutional support and strategic guidance and leadership to the University team.
