KAPATU University Project on Track to Becoming a Reality - Museveni Assures Karamojong Community

In a recent rally held on December 5, 2024, at Lomukura village in Kotido District, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni reassured the people of Karamoja that the long-awaited Karamoja Peace And Technology University (KAPATU) is on track to becoming a reality. As the Founding Chancellor of KAPATU, Museveni emphasized that the decision to establish the university is firmly integrated into the Ugandan government’s national agenda, which aims to have a public university in each of the 18 zones across the country.

Currently, Karamoja and about five other zones are without a public university. However, the government is committed to prioritizing KAPATU’s establishment, with Museveni indicating that it is merely a matter of budgeting. He stated, “The decision to support and set up the university is as good as done.” The KAPATU project is a collaborative initiative involving the Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic Lawyers Society International, and the Government of Uganda. The establishment of the university is spearheaded by a Strategic Leadership Committee chaired by President Museveni, with Vice President Jessica Alupo serving as the Founding Deputy Chancellor and Chief Promoter.

During the rally, Museveni addressed the community’s concerns and aspirations, underscoring the importance of higher education in fostering development and peace in the Karamoja region. The government’s emphasis on education supports not just the immediate needs of the populace but also its long-term growth prospects.

As the KAPATU project progresses, many residents are hopeful that it will serve as a pivotal institution for learning and development in Karamoja, enhancing educational opportunities for youth in the region and contributing to the overall social and economic development of the area.

With the assurance from President Museveni, the people of Karamoja are looking forward to the fulfilment of this long-awaited promise and the positive impacts KAPATU will bring to their community.
