The KAPATU Project Infrastructure Committee comprises the KAPATU Project 300-Year (2014-2314) Infrastructure Masterplan Committee, KAPATU ICT and AI Infrastructure Master Plan, and the KAPATU ERUPE Presidential Initiative, a 50-year (2026-2076) masterplan designed to connect water from Lake Bisina to the Karamoja Region.
The KAPATU Project 300-Year Infrastructure Masterplan Committee is a visionary group of experts dedicated to the comprehensive planning and development of sustainable infrastructure over a three-century timeline, spanning from 2014 to 2314.
The KAPATU ICT and AI Infrastructure Master Plan is a comprehensive 50-year strategic plan from 2026 to 2076, with an estimated budget of USD 50 million. Its primary objective is to automate the entire KAPATU system, including water management, utilities, and other University functions and activities through the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The plan also includes profiling animals in Karamoja to improve the sustainability of the local livestock industry. Additionally, the master plan aims to improve the lecture programs at KAPATU, enabling all students to attend classes via tablets from any location.
This initiative is led by H.E. President Yoweri Museveni, along with nine dedicated members of the KAPATU strategic team.
The KAPATU ERUPE Presidential Initiative is a 50-year Master Plan (2026-2076) strategic project under the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences of KAPATU, aimed at providing bulk water to every Ere (Homestead), Awii (Kraal) and Elain (Trading Centre) in Karamoja Sub-region. It intends to pick water from Lake Bisina in Teso to Karamoja, covering a distance of over 120 kilometres.
His Excellency, the President of Uganda and Founding Chancellor of KAPATU, spearheads the project alongside nine other members of KAPATU Strategic Leadership.
The project is estimated to cost between USD 200 million and 600 million, and it is scheduled to commence in November 2025. The significance of this project lies in the fact that it will be the first time Karamoja has a sure, secure and reliable source of water, promoting development in the region.
