He is a Member of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, Karamoja Peace And Technology University.
Dr. Apolo Katwijukye Kasharu holds a PhD in Agricultural Economics from the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart Germany. Prior to that he had obtained a B.Sc. Agric. (Hons) and M.Sc. from Makerere University, Kampala. His additional academic assets include; a Graduate Diploma in Research Methods and Data Analysis from Wye college, University of London, a professional diploma and post graduate professional diploma in Marketing awarded by Chartered Institute of Marketing, UK. Dr. Kasharu joined Gulu University (Faculty of Agriculture and Environment) in 2006 as a lecturer where he headed Department of Agribusiness and Rural Development before joining Bishop Stuart University in 2011 Associate Professor of Agribusiness.
He has also lectured at Uganda Christian University (UCU) and at Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) and Ndejje University. Dr. Kasharu’s community outreach include working as a coordinator of UPFORD (University Partnership For Research and Outreach Development) while at Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi, and with UNDP as business development and enterprise coordinator at UNDP’s Millennium Village Project – Ruhiira in Mbarara Uganda. He has undertaken a number of consultancy projects for international, national and not for profits organizations in Uganda and abroad. He has performed consultancies for European Union, FAO, WFP, NARO, A2N, CHAIN as well as being external examiner for School of Agricultural Economics- Makerere University.
At present, Dr. Kasharu works with the National Agricultural Research Organisation (NARO) as Research Officer. His professional research interests include agribusiness, small enterprises, rural livelihoods and agricultural marketing. He has published papers in international journals and proceedings as well as presenting at international conferences.
