Prof. Joseph Baguma

He is the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Karamoja Peace And Technology University. He is a Member of the Health and Medical Advisory Council for the CLASI.

Overview And Experience

Prof. Joseph Baguma is a Ugandan physician, academic, and public health specialist. He is the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at Karamoja Peace and Technology University (KAPATU) Project and a member of the Health and Medical Advisory Council for the Catholic Lawyers Society International (CLASI).

He earned his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Makerere University in 1999 and later obtained a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the Royal Tropical Institute, affiliated with Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, in 2005.

Prof. Baguma has held several leadership roles in health and humanitarian programs. He has served as Senior Health Manager with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Uganda, overseeing integrated health services for refugees and host communities. From 2011 to 2019, he was the Executive Director of THETA-Uganda, where he led national health development projects supported by international donors such as USAID, CDC, and SIDA. He previously worked as Health and Nutrition Coordinator for GTZ in Uganda and as Medical Director of Nyakibale Hospital.

Beyond management roles, he has contributed to health policy, training, and consultancy across Africa, including work with the World Health Organisation, the Ministry of Health in Uganda, and other international partners.
