The Prime Minister Emeritus of Uganda, Rt. Hon. The fundraising campaign aims to raise over UGX 2.3 trillion for the university’s establishment. Rt. Hon. Mbabazi, as the Chief International Fundraiser for the university, made the pledge during a meeting on May 30th, 2024, in Kampala with members of the KAPATU’s Technical Team, the group responsible for operationalising the university come August 2024.
During the meeting, the Technical Team, led by the President of the Catholic Lawyers Society International (CLASI), and the Chairperson University Council, Mr. Twinobusingye Severino, along with other academic and technical members, presented the various strategic, economic, architectural, and transformational plans for the establishment of the university, as well as the necessary financial requirements to achieve the objectives.
Appreciating the magnitude of the task at hand and the university’s potential to transform the Karamoja sub-region after over 194 years of neglect, Mbabazi promised to engage the President of Uganda, H.E Gen. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the Vice President of Uganda, H.E Maj. Jessica Alupo, who serves as the Founding Chancellor and Deputy Founding Chancellor of the university, respectively. Presented with a budget of over UGX 2.3 trillion by the university task force finance committee, Amama Mbabazi pledged to oversee the success of the university project through a worldwide fundraising campaign that will start with H.E the President and H.E the Vice President of Uganda.
The KAPATU Project was recently awarded a letter of interim authority by the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE) and has begun fundraising and operationalizing the university, which is headquartered at Christ the King Catholic Parish, Losilang, Kotido Municipality, Kotido District, Karamoja Sub-Region, North Eastern Uganda, East Africa. The university is a joint venture of the Catholic Lawyers Society International (CLASI), the Kotido Roman Catholic Diocese, and the Government of Uganda.
