During a budget meeting held at Crested Towers in Kampala on October 31, 2024, members of The Strategic Leadership Committee, Ex Officio, and Technical Committee of the Karamoja Peace and Technology University (KAPATU) Project reviewed and approved a budget exceeding UGX 180 billion to initiate the establishment of the University in its first year of operation.
This budget will cover the recruitment of essential human resources, the construction of infrastructure, and the acquisition of necessary state-of-the-art equipment, among other key requirements. The meeting was chaired by H.E Ambassador Lt. Gen. Philip Idro, a Technical Consultant for KAPATU and Principal Advisor for Operation Wealth Creation.
Notable attendees included Mr. Severino Twinobusingye, President and Chairperson of the Executive Council of the Catholic Lawyers Society International (CLASI) and Chairperson of the University Council; Hon. Lokii Peter Abrahams, MP for Jie County and an Ex Officio Member of the KAPATU Project University Council; along with key members of KAPATU’s Technical Committee.
The Kotido Roman Catholic Diocese, in collaboration with the Catholic Lawyers Society International and the Government of the Republic of Uganda, is leading the efforts to establish the Karamoja Peace and Technology University, which received a Letter of Interim Authority from the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) on April 19, 2024.
The KAPATU Main Campus is located at Christ the King Catholic Parish, Losilang, Kotido Municipality, Kotido District, Karamoja Sub-Region, North Eastern Uganda, East Africa.
